The Purpose of the Ceremony
Ancestral medicine ceremonies involving psilocybin mushrooms have been practiced for thousands of years by various cultures around the world. These ceremonies are deeply spiritual and are conducted to promote healing, personal growth, and a profound connection with nature and the self.
Psilocybin, the active compound in these sacred mushrooms, is known to facilitate deep emotional and psychological healing, offering a path to confront and resolve trauma, gain insight into personal challenges, and foster a sense of peace and clarity.
Setting Intention
Before participating in a psilocybin ceremony, it is essential to set a clear and meaningful intention.
This intention serves as a guiding light throughout the experience, helping to focus your mind and spirit on the healing process.
Whether your goal is to release past traumas, gain insight into life’s challenges, or simply reconnect with yourself, a well-considered intention will anchor your journey, making the experience more profound and purposeful.
Safe Setting
A safe, serene and quiet setting is crucial for a positive and transformative experience during ceremony.
Ceremonies are typically held in beautiful, calming natural locations, which help participants connect more deeply with the earth and the healing energies of the environment.
Appropriate surroundings are just as important for the time before and after the ceremony, to enable quiet reflection, provide tranquil space for integration and other activities that usually take place before and after the ceremony.
Shaman-Guide
The presence of an experienced and healthy shaman-guide is also vital.
Good guide is not only knowledgeable in the use of psilocybin and other healing plants, is also skilled in creating a safe, supportive space for participants.
Facilitating the ceremony with care is of utmost importance, using rich experience to navigate the spiritual and psychological dimensions of the journey, ensuring that participants feel secure and held throughout the process.
If you seek healing, it is paramount to select a healthy guide!
How to know?
Look at the physical body of the shaman…straight and relaxed posture with open chest, healthy skin and hair, sparking with vitality glow in the eyes, springy walk, calm and pleasant voice with good ability to sing and play instruments, visible kindness in the eyes, open and transparent with ability to listen and answer any questions related to the ceremony, using non-violent communication style, able to laugh at oneself, humble…keeps healthy diet and is free of addictions such as smoking or alcohol etc.
Good guide is experienced in various therapies outside of ceremony space too, including art therapy, dance and movement based therapy, breathwork, holding talk circles, massage…
Moreover, it is important to select a shaman who will provide good clear instructions without imposing religious or dogmatic information or philosophies! The focus is on the personal experience and the direct connection with the healing power of nature and the self. This approach allows participants of all backgrounds and beliefs to engage in the ceremony without the need to adhere to any specific religious or spiritual framework. The emphasis is on the individual’s journey, their healing, and their personal connection to the experience.
Ceremony is a sacred container and good shaman-guide is there to ensure the experience is safe, beautiful, profound and healing!
If you meet your potential guide, be it in person or through personal call or video… make sure you feel at ease and use your intuition, wisdom and discernment, this will save you troubles!
Basic Preparation for the Ceremony
Preparation for a ceremony begins well before the actual event.
Participants are encouraged to follow a preparatory diet, which typically involves abstaining from alcohol, caffeine, processed and fried foods, dairy, red meats, and other substances that may interfere with the clarity of the experience for at least 5-7 days in advance.
A clean, light diet consisting of whole, plant-based foods and baked or steamed fish together with good hydration helps to purify the body and mind, creating a more receptive state for the ceremony.
Mental and emotional preparation is equally important.
Participants are advised to spend time in meditation, reflection, and mindfulness practices in the days leading up to the ceremony, as this helps to cultivate a calm, focused, and open state of mind.
If possible, it is also a good idea to have a gentle massage and some stretching before.
Journaling is also encouraged.
Contraindications and Risks
While psilocybin mushrooms can offer profound healing, they are not suitable for everyone.
Individuals with a history of severe mental illness, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder as well as suicide-ideation history can consider participating in ceremonies only if referred to by a licenced medical professional such as psychiatrist or psychologist and working with one before, during ceremony and after in cooperation with the shaman is important. Potential participant’s full and honest disclosure of past medical history is of utmost importance, for own safety and those around!
Additionally, those taking certain medications, particularly SSRIs or other psychiatric drugs, should consult with a healthcare provider before considering psilocybin, as there can be significant interactions.
It is also important to approach these ceremonies with a respectful and open attitude. The experience can be intense, and participants may encounter challenging emotions or visions. However, with the right preparation, guidance, and setting, these challenges can be navigated safely, leading to profound personal growth and healing.
Scientific Research on Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy
Recent scientific studies have increasingly validated the therapeutic potential of psilocybin.
Research has shown that psilocybin-assisted therapy can be highly effective in treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health conditions.
It has also been shown to help individuals cope with end-of-life anxiety and existential distress. These studies underscore the potential of psilocybin as a powerful tool for mental and emotional healing.

Post-Ceremony Integration
The period following a psilocybin ceremony, often referred to as the integration phase, is just as important as the ceremony itself.
This is a time for reflection, processing, and grounding the insights gained during the experience. Participants are encouraged to take time off from their usual routines, allowing space to rest and integrate the experience fully. First few days after the ceremony are extremely crucial to integrate the experience well.
Time off work and free from family responsibilities or extreme sports or hobbies and being surrounded by supportive, experienced individuals who understand this type of healing can greatly enhance the integration process. These individuals can provide guidance, help to process the experience, and support the continued journey of healing and growth.
It is also important to understand that following the ceremony, profound life changes can occur, which means types of relationships and behaviours can shift. Handling those shifts can be easier also with the support of professional psilocybin-trained therapists and support groups. It is helpful to seek social circles and role models that encourage new, healthier behaviours.
Walks in nature, interactions with animals, creative endeavours, yoga and gentle exercise, breathwork, writing, music, meditations are all good activities to engage in.
The Role of Music and Healing Songs
Music plays a central role in psilocybin and other master healer plant ceremonies.
Healing songs, performed live by the shaman-guides, are used to facilitate and deepen the journey. These songs, sometimes referred to as icaros in certain indigenous traditions, carry healing energy and guide participants through their experience.
Music, carefully chosen to resonate with the emotional and spiritual dimensions of the journey, enhances the overall experience, helping participants to release, transform, and heal.
That is why it is so key to select a ceremony type that offers live music, which can be tailored to the particular need of the participants at the appropriate times! This cannot be achieved with a pre-recorded music coming from a playlist!!!
Experienced shaman offers a wide variety of songs, icaros, healing sounds and proficiency in using music instruments, such as rattles, whistles, ocarinas or flutes, drums, chimes, chacarpa (wayra) – leaf rattle, melodic instruments like harp, guitar, harmonica or… even piano…
